SERVICES:

The Cornea Department of our institute boasts of an efficient team and the infrastructure to deal with all kinds of emergencies

It is supported by the well equipped Prova Eye Bank to perform all types of cornea grafting, including modern specialized lamellar procedures like DSEK (2006) and DALK (2002) which were the first to be done in Eastern India.

The Hospital Corneal Retrieval Programme (HCRP) with R. G. Kar Medical College, B. R. Singh Railway Hospital and District Hospital, Barasat, North 24 Parganas has added a new dimension to our Eye Services since 2005. We are lucky to have the best eye banking services of the East!

We also have the facility for processing and preservation of Amniotic membranes in a deep freezer at -70 degree Celsius for upto a year. Amniotic membrane is used for a variety of ocular surface disorders
e.g. chemical burns and Stevens- Johnson Syndrome.

A fully equipped Microbiology Laboratory helps in the diagnosis and treatment of various infective corneal diseases.

Corneal Collagen Cross- linking, C3R, is a technology to treat ectatic corneal disorders like keratoconus.
It helps to halt the progression of this disease where otherwise, the vision can deteriorate. This is regularly performed here.

Very recently the Boston Keratoprosthesis (2009) has been successfully done at the institute, the first of its kind in Eastern India.
